5 Ways to Create Psychogical Safety for Introverts

Today we will talk about psychological safety and the introverted part of us in the culture.
Western society rewards the extroverted part of our personalities, and extroverts seem to have a significant presence, and that's what our society is about.
Yet there's a quiet confidence that comes with being an introvert. Introversion is positively correlated with being gifted or intelligent.
It's so important to understand that safety in a psychological manner is more important than physical safety. The wounds that happen when we are not psychologically safe or that trigger our fight or flight response can downgrade our functioning.
If you are an extrovert, consider how to create psychological safety for introverts. If you are an introvert, share these tips with your extroverted friends and family.
We should work together with increased awareness and understanding so everyone feels heard and cared about and our gifts can come to the table.
Five ways to create psychological safety for introverts in your life:
- Shorter is better. For introverts, too much too fast and overstimulation causes them to shut down. In many, it also causes emotional or decision fatigue.
- Minimize the number of surprises, and only sometimes push introverts out of their comfort zone.
- Release the need to say everything out loud and answer all the questions.
- Create space to ask questions and to share and talk.
- Give introverts advance notice. If you want introverts to pay attention, a process they need to charge their battery within and advance notice helps their process.
The people who say one thing and do something else create a lack of psychological safety for introverts. They struggle because they take everything in, ponder, and think about things.
So, we want to have a level of psychological safety. So, people with integrity do what they say they will do.
