Are you stuck on what you want to do or what career path you want to pursue? π€
Registered apprenticeship programs have made huge strides in helping gifted individuals achieve confidence in reaching their potential, finding meaningful jobs they love, and making life choices that align with their heart's desires.Β
Join me in this episode of Someone Gets Me βΆοΈ How Apprenticeships Can Serve the Neurodivergent with Susan Biszewski-Eber.
Key points covered in this episode:Β
βοΈ My very good friend, Susan Biszewski-Eber, has been in the workforce and career-development world for the past 22 years. She's proven that developing registered apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs best support people with neurodivergence. For gifted people floundering in making career choices, there's always a place you can go and a new path you can take.
βοΈ We have made significant breakthroughs to finally consider neurodivergence as a unique benefit rather than being considered a problem or an illness. It's time to stop looking at it only as diagnostic criteria, which is the common conversation.Β
βοΈ Newer apprenticeship programs in various industries are based on competencies. Neurodivergent individuals can move into competency-based apprenticeship programs based on their skills, not the set amount of time required to accomplish them. Employers can set the wage scale and provide rewards based on benchmarks.Β
βοΈ Apprenticeships encourage mentoring. For someone uninitiated in a particular career and building on-the-job training, they can't go wrong. Because regardless of which of the multiple intelligences one falls under, one can have the ability to use that intelligence immediately guided by an experienced co-worker or mentor.
βοΈ The truth is, we are all divergent neurologically, and it's not just a brain thing. It's the full experience of all the nervous-system neurons in the body. The conversation needs to be expanded and looked at from the strength benefit, providing life and career support for how someone learns, processes things differently, and matches up with the right jobs. We can have more confidence, productivity, and alignment when we support each other's uniqueness.
βοΈ When you're starting to look at a career, it is always best to seek advice from seasoned professionals who provide a broader perspective. You can access mentors from apprenticeships, programs, and career development projects that best support gifted individuals like you.
