How to start the year with praise and gratitude
Tuesday Jan 03, 2023
Tuesday Jan 03, 2023
Welcome to a new year. Today we are talking about an atmosphere of praise and gratitude.
Sometimes our presence has the power to change things. The atmosphere around us is important. We should pay attention to it. What energy are you feeling? Do you notice the feeling that other people leave behind?
We can choose an atmosphere of praise and gratitude where we create new ways to offer positivity to the world. This is a cumulative phenomenon that makes our world change for the better.
The same accumulation happens when people live in fear and negativity.
Are you currently the person who lives in fear and is the complaining type? The person with negative energy making the atmosphere heavy with your complaining? Offer praise and gratitude even in the face of adversity.
If you were a flower, what kind our flower would you be? A flower with a sweet scent or one with thorns.
How are you moving into the next day, week year?
Move all the heavy doomsday thinking out of your mind and feel what it feels like to be neutral and present.
Once we shift, we can create an atmosphere of grace and love. Simply by shifting what we think and what we say.
What is most prevalent in you is what comes out of you under stress. How do you react under pressure?
The state of your heart is evident in your reactions when you are under pressure.
This episode reminds us that our human trajectory can be interesting, but it is up to us the energy and atmosphere and how we are remembered in this world.
How do you want to be remembered? By fear or love?
I invite you to an exercise. Use gratitude throughout your day. Offer gratitude. Say thank you! When you meet someone during your day, as you drive, as you go through the doorways.
Remember to put your face to the sun so the shadows fall behind you.
Be on purpose, with a purpose.

Women in Science and Research with Dr. Jen Bizon
Tuesday Dec 27, 2022
Tuesday Dec 27, 2022
Are you thinking of getting started in science and research? 🧬🔬🥼
Dr. Jennifer Bizon says it's never too late to explore what excites you and to invest in your interests.
As the Chair of the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Florida, Dr. Bizon's journey as an academic researcher in neuroscience was not easy. An incredible lady and an empathic leader, a visionary, a researcher, and a scientist — she graces the show to talk about the joy of discovery, the gift of connecting with gifted individuals, and the inspiring capacity of a woman moving forward in the world of science.
Watch Someone Gets Me ▶️ Women in Science and Research
with Dr. Jen Bizon.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ The transformative power of online learning. Online education is booming, not just the formal online class but the whole scientific enterprise, whether it's the meetings, talks, cohorts, and anything about new findings. Dr. Bizon shares that since everything can be done effectively in an online format, we're breaking down distance barriers in a way that will help with accessibility or increasing diversity in science.
✔️ It's becoming more and more expected that we show up in our entirety at the workplace. After decades of emphasizing the importance of inclusivity in the workplace, more and more organizations are learning to embrace their employees to become their most authentic selves.
✔️ Many women thrive in science, research, and technology as they are given more support in balancing having children and careers. Organizations that value and treat their people with respect bring out the best in them and encourage authenticity and innovation.
✔️ As a leader, bring out the best ideas from your people with the knowledge that not everybody can speak their minds outright. 🧠✨
Dr. Bizon reminds us to always ask. Make sure that there are multiple ways you take those diverse views, especially from the gifted and the introverted, and help them have a voice.

Joy On The Journey
Tuesday Dec 20, 2022
Tuesday Dec 20, 2022
It's so easy to get caught up in destination addiction and focus only on the goal and looking at the finish line. The truth is that when we do that — we miss so much of our life. Who wants to watch a movie missing all the details and only getting to "the end"? The richness of life is in the journey and enjoying the process of getting there.
If you want more joy, pay attention on a deeper level by using all of your senses to do it. In this episode, I share suggestions on ramping up your joy a little bit more as you go into the new year and the new season in the story of your own life.
Watch Someone Gets Me ▶️ Joy On The Journey with Dianne A. Allen.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔ Jettison the things that don't work. Scrap the old belief systems and the old stuff you're holding onto, and clear yourself of chaos from the inside out so you can be clutter-free in your thoughts. Stop holding onto guilt, resentment, fear, worry, or doubt. It's time to jettison those things and allow joy to spring up because those heavy things will always push happiness down and make it harder to feel it.
✔ Omit, omit, omit things that don't serve you. A good question to ask yourself: Is what I'm about to do for the highest good of all concerned? Or is what I'm doing, thinking, and saying getting me where I want to go? Because we often want a certain goal, our thoughts, words, and actions don't align with that goal. That creates dissonance, and it steals our joy.
✔ In setting new goals, one must supplement the desire with the decision. Making that decision means cutting off everything except those you consider most essential. It can be easier said than done, but this concept can make the most extraordinary results when we are resolute in applying it in our lives.
✔ This basic rule is often forgotten: If you look for the bad, you will find it. If you look for the good, you will find it. As humans, we are given two positive and negative choices that become our reality. Remember, where your attention goes, energy follows.
✔ Let your heart be full of goodness, knowing that your light will extinguish the darkness. Your happiness and purpose will come to you, but first, learn to yield that everything happens for your highest good, even amid the brokenness. Pay attention to the timing that's made perfect for you. Growth is in the waiting, and patience creates more meaning, depth, and richness.
✔ Practice not hurrying through life. Slow it down a little bit. Pay attention. Appreciate nature. Appreciate yourself. Next time you're outside, check out the clouds. If it's nighttime, check out the stars. What's happening with all the animals and the foliage around, wherever you are? What about the breeze on your face? Look for the good and increase your joy because the world is a tricky place.

Surviving this Insane World as Gifted Women with Nicole White
Tuesday Dec 13, 2022
Tuesday Dec 13, 2022
It takes courage and sass for a gifted woman to accept being herself walking through this often crazy world. Take it from Nicole White, who describes her childhood as a struggle to understand what she was. Moving from job to job until adulthood, she was judged for being too smart or introverted and often felt out of place. Only at age 40 could she understand the answers to "What does being Gifted mean?"
Watch Someone Gets Me ▶️ Surviving this Insane World as Gifted Women with Nicole White.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ You start looking for what's wrong with you and realize that's something right with you. In school or the workplace, Nicole felt misunderstood for being different. "People experience you differently. So they think that you're trying to outshine them. They think that you're trying to outdo them. And then the claws come out when they start to feel that way. So it's the sabotage, the holding back, the career, the smear campaigns, the rumor mills, all these I experienced." A lot of grief and anger needs healing to reconcile that you have a gift instead of a curse.
✔️ Many don't expect that gifted adults are bullied. Dianne reminds us that what anyone says or does that's hurtful against others is about themselves. It doesn't excuse away the behavior, and it doesn't excuse away the consequence of the behavior, even though we understand it. People in your organizations or your family treat people like this, and it is never okay. You must shed light on it and be responsible and accountable for that behavior.
✔️ With being gifted, quiet quitting has become a survival mechanism in the workplace. If you're in a toxic work environment and forced to operate at a level below your capacity, you often have some cognitive dissonance. You have some push and pull going on there, especially if you don't know you're gifted because you're trying to fit in and you're not quite sure why you are having such an experience.
✔️ Don't be afraid to embrace fully who you are outside of the perceptions of others. Instead of looking at yourself through other people's perceptions (which Nicole says she's done for 30+ years), peel away those labels and opinions people throw at you and decipher the real you in all of that.

Dealing with Grief
Tuesday Dec 06, 2022
Tuesday Dec 06, 2022
Grief isn't just about the loss of a beloved someone or a cherished pet. I define it as a conflicting mass of human emotion following any significant change of behavior. So even if you decide to set a new goal, get a new job, move to a different state, or get to the next level of your relationships — there is grief that happens.
It's a normal human experience and emotion that helps us navigate the world. Now, sensitive people, empathic people, and people with overexcitabilities can feel it intensely, a lot of it. Understanding these myths about grief and knowing the right things to do will help yourself or your loved ones when grieving. The good thing is that we shouldn't go through it alone. There is always help available.
Watch Someone Gets Me ▶️ Dealing with Grief with Dianne A. Allen.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔ Myth 1: Time heals all wounds.
It doesn't. What heals it is authentic communication, honesty, and self-awareness. Permit yourself to continue to move forward. Time alone cannot heal the pain in your heart as you go through grief. Grow through what you are going through and find yourself healing and evolving.
✔ Myth 2: You have to grieve alone because you're strong, independent, and smart.
I've had so many gifted people come to me and say, "I'm smart. I shouldn't be feeling this way." That doesn't even make sense. How we feel has nothing to do with our intelligence, our feelings are the energy that tells us we're alive. That's not anything to do with how smart we are. We can be brilliant and have intense feelings. You can't think your way through all of life, folks. You can't. So it's not about grieving alone and figuring it out. It's about allowing yourself to receive support. It's about being connected. It's about honoring and being honest about your feelings, especially if there's no word for them.
✔ Myth 3: You will regret the past. We hold on to these ideas of regret, upset, and disconnection to contain the grief and make it a badge of honor. None of that is healthy. What is healthy is honoring what happened—owning it. Yes, these are your feelings, and they're the truth. You will only move through them and become more alive, coming from an authentic and honest place. That's the goal.
✔ Myth 4: Don't trust your feelings. You feel that you're supposed to be sad because this bad thing happened. Know that you can be happy, and you can still be grieving. You can be angry and grieving. As we're coming into the holiday season, many people have different feelings. It's totally normal. It's okay. All your feelings are okay. They can control us when we try to fight them and resist them or pretend they're not there. Allow your emotions to coexist mutually.

Trauma, Gifted and Anxiety with Eric Windhorst
Tuesday Nov 29, 2022
Tuesday Nov 29, 2022
Trauma can be defined in many ways for the gifted and intensely sensitive. Counselor, coach, and psychotherapist, Dr. Eric Windhorst explains trauma as any overwhelming event we experience.
Remember, trauma is subjective. No two people have the same experience, and one may or may not be traumatized depending on their interpretation of events, their nervous system, and their intensities.
Join us in this powerful new episode of Someone Gets Me ▶️ Trauma, Gifted and Anxiety with Eric Windhorst.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ Eric Windhorst defines trauma as going through something that we can't fully contain and becoming broken through that experience. "We become a little bit fragmented because it was just too much to handle. We can't make sense of it. We don't know what to do. And so part of us kind of goes away. In certain traditions, that's called soul loss. You could also talk about it as a kind of fragmentation. And the results of trauma vary from person to person."
✔️ Neurodiverse individuals with intense sensitivities and giftedness go through traumatizing experiences. It's vital to honor the individual and their experience and understand the context from their lived experience to know how they're going through the world and make sense of what has affected them.
✔️ Being curious is medicine. Eric says that western medicine has been outstanding, and sometimes it's also been horrible. Allow your curiosity to explore different resources and develop that capacity for maintaining wholeness in oneself. What can be outside conventional scientific ways like energy work practices are backed up by numerous research. Clearing the aura and grounding energy inside us is powerfully transformative.
✔️ Calm your state of being with nature. Eric prescribes moving or exercise meditation practices that help improve energy as the best ways to refocus one's attention, get loads of stress from the brain, and be present in the body. Eric shares, "The most profound things will happen just by being in the presence of nature and basking in different types of energy."
✔️ Presence is the ultimate gift we can experience for ourselves and offer others. Whether you're a professional coach, counselor, or an average person - don't forget that the pursuit of healing is all about connection. When we interact with others from a point wherein we evaluate a person more rather than being fully present for them, it will be felt and create a sense of disconnection for others.
—————————————————————
Eric Windhorst, PhD, RP, is a counselor, coach, psychotherapist, educator, writer, and (re)searcher passionate about connecting people with nature - both inner nature (their true, authentic self) and outer nature (the wider natural world) - to facilitate healing and growth. Eric approaches his work holistically, informed by eco-psychological, family systems, humanistic, Jungian, and transpersonal ideas. Are You Distracted?
Tuesday Nov 22, 2022
Tuesday Nov 22, 2022
So many people come to me and seek help as they experience different kinds and levels of distraction. Trying to reach their goal or doing what's good for themselves can be hard.
These distractions come as guilt, worry, sadness, resentment, anxiety, destination addiction, fear, greed, anger, and shame. As restricting energies, when left to persist, they can get in the way of your living, attaining your vision, and your connection to other human beings.
Watch Someone Gets Me ▶️Are You Distracted? with Dianne A. Allen.
Key points covered in this episode:
🔲 Guilt
When we feel guilt, that means we broke our own rule. Now our opportunity is to say, is that rule really still applicable to my life? Do I need to change the rule, or do I need to change my behavior? Our culture reinforces that if we feel guilty, we can beat ourselves up. We can go down this rabbit hole of everything's not good. It distracts us from who we are. It distracts us from our vision. It distracts us from our purpose. So when we feel guilty, it means we either shift to the role or shift our behavior and move on from there.
🔲 Worry
My definition of "worry" is praying for something to go wrong. We think about things in the future when we're not even there yet and distract ourselves from our current behavior, our current action, and our current way. We are distracted from our goals, purpose, and being by constantly worrying. We can end up missing days or weeks or even years or decades, living in the future and worrying about something that never comes to pass.
🔲 Sadness
It's easy to feel sadness as an intuitive and an empath, picking on other people's unhappiness. When you let the sadness take over, you're distracted from your purpose and what you're meant to do.
🔲 Resentment
Resentment means to feel something over and over again. Kids can get in a little scuffle in the playground, but pretty soon, they're playing again, while adults tend to refuel the same thing repeatedly. You can resent the government, the crisis, your former spouse, and everybody else, and when you get caught in those cycles, things don't work out because you get distracted.
🔲 Anxiety
Feelings of panic, doom, or danger are how we define anxiety. You manage it when you first breathe like air is your friend and get outside in nature. Anxiety can be healed. When you stop letting this control you and stop allowing it to run untethered through your system, you will find yourself coming back to your purpose, your vision, and your inner calling.
🔲 Destination Addiction
If you're always focused on the outcome and not paying attention to the journey - you're not enjoying life. Always trying to get to the finish line, and then the next finish line steals joy.
🔲 Fear
False Evidence Appearing Real. We teach many strategies to stop living in fear, which can be easier said than done. Let go of control and trust the outcome. Be in the flow, honor your feelings, and not let it control you at the same time.
🔲 Greed
Greed can cause you lots of trouble when it possesses you more and more.
🔲 Anger
Screaming, yelling, and road rage are prevalent. Anger will do it every time. Anger is a secondary feeling. It never comes all by itself. It always comes from pain and not knowing "I'm disconnected from myself." People get angry, and they take it out on other people. It can be the byproduct of blame and frustration.
🔲 Shame
Shame means "I am a mistake," and somehow, I believe I shouldn't be sucking air. Guilt and shame can go at the same time in a person, but they're not always tied.
Which emotions, beliefs, and energies do you hold on to?
When we let these distractions take hold of our lives, we may reflect on them and regret them. We miss opportunities because we hold back when we can connect and do something extraordinary. There are so many consequences, like self-doubt, that prevent us from being who we are. We must check in with ourselves frequently throughout the day and see how things in the mind, body, and spirit need to be taken back in alignment. It's time to stop allowing them to control you, which removes you from your true purpose.

How to Get Out of Your Own Way with Lauren McLaughlin
Tuesday Nov 15, 2022
Tuesday Nov 15, 2022
It's easy to talk about concepts about pursuing a spiritual life. We often hear it from articles, books, coaches, and shows all over the internet. What often gets people stuck is how to get out of their own way and implement the HOWs.
My friend and guest, ordained minister and author Lauren McLaughlin, shares valuable lessons we need to be reminded of every day, and the truth that we each came to planet earth to have a happy, fulfilling life experience, and whenever we connect to our SELF, life doesn't have to be so hard.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ Gratitude is the best tool for anyone to use for any problem on the planet. Lauren believes this is a practice anyone can do, especially for those who are too caught up in overcomplicating and overthinking. Take a step back and look at everything you have in your life. Often you find that there are so many amazing things to be grateful for. 🌼🤗🌼
Spend a little time appreciating things you take for granted, whether it's a ballpoint pen or a windshield wiper - look at the simplest thing. If it ceased working, you would also be stopped in the basic things you do.
✔️ You can always be grateful and start with: I can see, I can hear, I can touch, I can taste, I can smell. Even if one of those is compromised, you have other senses that do fantastic work for you.
I can walk, I can talk, I can love, I can communicate, I can sing, I can dance. Be thankful for these and realize how blessed you are in the simplest and even more complex ways than you would have thought.
✔️A big ego has wrecked so many relationships.
The need to be right all the time happens to many of us, but we can go beyond it by first becoming aware when it gets triggered and shows up. A valuable tip for partners is to give your ego a name, become aware of triggers to communicate better, and know how to avoid when the ego strikes and starts creating drama.
✔️ That fear of missing out is an ego disorder.
Are you stuck in the cycle of anxious thoughts and the need to keep up with what you see on social media? Focusing on your inner-world makes you immune to FOMO. 📴 Turn that phone off, practice meditation, yoga, and journaling, and spend time with people you love to get you connected and centered on the things that hold true value in your life.
Break the cycle and be present. That's the best thing you can do for YOU.
✔️ Forgiving someone has nothing to do with what they did.
Whether it's your parents, teachers, friends, loved ones, or everybody else who hurt you or did you wrong - forgiving them does not take away the fact that what was done wrong should be forgotten. However, it is essential to understand that forgiving someone has nothing to do with what they did. When you embrace forgiveness, you let yourself off the grasp of anger, resentment, and revenge. Be free, pursue your joy, and move forward.

It is Okay to Rest

Tuesday Nov 08, 2022
So many people are often stressed, burned out, and angry.
WHY?
Because they can't take it anymore.
Because they are too tired.
Because as a culture, we don't support rest.
It's time we become honest, come within, and honor the fact that we're human be-ings and not human do-ings. It takes guts to stand up in a society that expects us to be machines.
Whether it's MORE clients, MORE books to write, or MORE projects that will entice you for something bigger or better in the future, become purposeful with rest. Be mindful of several aspects to focus on, and take that much-needed respite, always to come back and be in your best element.
Join us in this powerful new episode of Someone Gets Me ▶️ It is Okay to Rest with Dianne A. Allen.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ Creative rest. As creators and gifted visionaries, it's essential to take breaks. Whether it's journaling, sketching, walking in nature, or just taking in the beauty, smell, or richness of wherever you are to allow creative juices to rest. It's not always about production. It's not always about the go, go, go, but being willing to honor the flow and the creative process within your own being.
✔️ Sensory rest. It's a must to give ourselves a break from all the stimuli, from all of the pop-ups, screens, and blue light. One of the things I love to do for a sensory break is going to the float center and floating in the darkness that they called sensory-deprivation tanks in the 60s. They've made a resurgence in a healthy way because a lot of research shows how float therapy helps reset the brain and calms it down. Not to mention, the high magnesium in the water gets absorbed through your skin and enables you to relax.
✔️ Mental rest. The best kind is to let ourselves think about something that doesn't really matter so that the actual thinking can rest. Meditation, swimming, or just sitting under a tree does wonders. We don't always have to be thinking. We don't always have to be figuring things out. So it's important to give ourselves mental rest no matter how busy we are.
✔️ Emotional rest. You don't have to take everything on if you don't feel up for it. If you do, you are putting yourself in harm's way to be there or serve somebody, even if you cannot do it. 🙅♀️ We want to be giving from a full vessel that's overflowing, not from one that's partially full or empty. Emotional rest means honoring "I can't do it right now," and teaching others to respect that boundary. Replenish yourself and give from your overflow, and things will become better.
✔️ Physical rest. This has to do with giving ourselves permission to rest. Our bodies like getting enough sleep; it is how we regenerate. Another way we take care of the physical is to do fasting and make sure we do three to four hours of not eating before we go to bed so our body, and the liver in particular, can rest. There are so many things we can do for physical rest, including stretching and exercise.
✔️ Spiritual rest. Our connection to the greater good, the greater universe, may or may not include religion. What matters is being intentional in tapping into it. So how does that work? Practices that include meditation, prayer, music, or writing are different ways to keep the spirit whole.
✔️ Social rest. This is important because we are in a very extroverted world. Well, I'm introverted and like people, but I may not want to be with so many people all the time. Get served by taking social breaks and protecting your rest.
