How to Find your Rhythm with Wally Reyes Jr.
Tuesday May 17, 2022
Tuesday May 17, 2022
World-renowned percussionist Wally Reyes Jr’s love for music stemmed from his early childhood experience with his father buying him a new drum set.
Though time and passion have been a driving force for Wally Reyes Jr’s mastery of his craft, they have also honed his creativity and innovation in the most unexpected times – whether at home or in the studio.
Touring and performing live with the most established bands is a team effort, he fondly retells. He shares never failing to show appreciation for the staff as “without them, we’re just musicians that play, but there’s nothing on stage.”
Sacrifice, the humility to learn, and the heart in doing the best show for the audience are how Wally Reyes Jr. taps his foot to the rhythm of life as a musician, producer, teacher, and father.
Join me in this episode of Someone Gets Me — How to Find your Rhythm with Wally Reyes Jr. ▶️
Key point covered in this episode:
✔️ Intuition is part of creativity. Wally Reyes Jr compares the team effort in performing in a band to a school of fish. It takes a unique type of intuition for fish to swim and look out for each other, just as how experienced musicians learn to react appropriately when things go awry.
✔️Always improve the vehicle that takes you to your creativity. A sudden burst of creativity can come when you’re making your morning coffee or spending time with loved ones. Wally Reyes Jr. recommends heeding that call to practice your craft and keep you in tip-top musical and mental shape.
✔️Ask for help. Fear is the biggest hurdle to improvement. Surround yourself with experts who can further enrich your skills. And don’t be afraid to ask even the silliest questions. What’s the worst that could happen?
✔️Put yourself in a position to receive the blessing. If you’re not prepared and you miss your chance, rewrite your plan. You may be in a place that hinders your growth. Go where the experts and students in your field thrive. This opens you up to endless opportunities. It’s not enough to be talented to stand out either. Learn to collaborate with your peers and mentors, and foster strong relationships.
✔️You deliver what you need to deliver. As a musician playing for big names like Chicago and Santana, Wally Reyes Jr. explains that improvisation should be left in your alone time. Audiences flock to shows to hear the soundtrack of their lives – untouched and unchanged.
✔️Go to your grave with nothing left inside you. Give it your all until your tank is empty. Don’t leave this world filled with regret about the amazing things that you could’ve created. This is the ultimate goal.
✔️Being a master of something takes sacrifice. The greatest, most talented artists spend most of their days in isolation – practicing, creating, and honing their craft. Reaching the highest level of mastery requires a period of focus and work before fame and recognition come.
Few drummers playing today can successfully combine the rich history of Latin, Afro-Cuban, and World Percussion with the drum set. For Walfredo Reyes, Jr., fusing the two disciplines has been his driving passion. In fact, by blazing this path, Reyes has challenged the technical levels of our instrument. Born in Cuba, raised in Puerto Rico, and culminating his musical style in the U.S., Wally (Walfredo Jr.) learned the traditions from the master, his father Walfredo Sr. He married those principles with his love of the drum set, coming up with his own truly global rhythmic style. Simply put, Wally is able to sound like a drummer and a percussionist at the same time. Add blistering chops and a penchant for playing unusual patterns to the mix, and you have only a small idea of what this man can do.
Not surprisingly, this “one-man percussion show” has gathered an impressive list of gigs over the years, including touring and/or recording with: Carlos Santana, Traffic, Steve Winwood, Jackson Browne, Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, David Lindley, Ricki Lee Jones, Richard Marx, Sergio Mendes, Smokey Robinson, Robbie Robertson, Joe Sample, Boz Scaggs, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Johnny Hallyday, Khaled, Lindsey Buckingham, Chicago, and many others.
Because of his versatility, Walfredo is one of the most in-demand musicians in the world today. He continues to expand his talents to recording, producing, composing, education, live performance, and touring.”
Bio written by Rick Van Horn.
Walfredo is currently touring with the world-renowned Classic Rock band, Chicago, playing drumset.

Be The Person Who Breaks The Cycle
Tuesday May 10, 2022
Tuesday May 10, 2022
My first mentor used to say all the time that "healing work is not for wimps." Having done a lot of processing and work with myself, it's so true that deciding to make a change is not for the faint of heart. It's the strong people who can make tough decisions to seek help.
Gifted people who are twice-exceptional and those with neurodiversity situations can have it harder. Breaking the pattern can be more difficult because they live life in a 3D surround sound movie theater with all of the bells and whistles loud compared to somebody who's just watching the same show on a black and white TV. In many ways, they need more support, guidance, love and care, and the challenge of belief systems that aren't correct.
Join me in this episode of Someone Gets Me —Be The Person Who Breaks The Cycle. ▶️
Key point covered in this episode:
✔️ To break the cycle takes a lot of courage, guts, faith, and trust.
From a metaphysical viewpoint, the moment we decide to change and break the old cycles of shame or unresolved trauma that do not serve us, the entire universe comes in to assist us. The process is always messy and even painful. Doing a lot of work on oneself is never an easy task. But in the end, it's always worth it. Always.
✔️There is a way to break the cycle. There are almost 75 different modalities, experiences and things to help you by freeing the trapped energy from the generations past and a wide variety to break the patterns that do not serve you.
✔️Release being judgmental of others and yourself. Judgment means assigning a value according to what we believe is valuable. I'm too old to do this. I'm too young to do that. I'm not tall enough. I'm not smart or pretty enough. These are all judgment statements. Until we begin to disengage from judging or rejecting to move into understanding and compassion, will we be able to accept others and ourselves.
✔️ Making the decision to break the cycle is the first step. To decide means cutting out all other possibilities as hard as it might feel or as resistant as you might get. Often people say: Help me, help me, help me! But when it comes time to do the work, they push back and even blame those who try to provide help as they deflect, get distracted or don't show up.
✔️ Familiar pain gets more comfortable. That's what happens in domestic violence, for people who stay in toxic corporate cultures and those who stick to relationships where they don't want to be in.
✔️ The whole universe conspires to assist you and brings you to a beautiful solution that's better than you ever imagined. When you are the one who makes the change, and you are the one who breaks the cycle, you also free everyone in the process: your children, your siblings, your ancestors, your parents, everybody wins.

Sheriff Grady Judd Speaks On Visionary Leadership
Tuesday May 03, 2022
Tuesday May 03, 2022
Recognized as a leader in the law enforcement profession, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd lives by the importance of first valuing the people he serves that makes every community a thriving place of peace and order.
Join me in this episode of Someone Gets Me — Sheriff Grady Judd Speaks On Visionary Leadership. ▶️
Key point covered in this episode:
✔️Notable positive changes in Polk County are attributed to Sheriff Grady Judd's leadership. A visionary and hard worker, he was recently recognized as "Sheriff of the Year" by Major County Sheriffs of America. Sheriff Grady shares he has always wanted to work in law enforcement since he was four years old. "That was my dream, and I grew up and got to do exactly that. How many people can say they wake up every morning before the alarm goes off and come to work all excited to help someone? I get to do that every day."
✔️The toxicity of American politics has created a huge divide in recent years. Sheriff Grady believes that upholding his mission of providing help to all regardless of affiliation, color, or interests is what is most needed now. "I dismiss all of this craziness that we've seen the last few years because that's not the America I know, the America I grew up in. I get up every day, and I choose to see the good in people and respond to people who are struggling. And then we get to provide that help, and that's pretty special to me."
✔️For Sheriff Grady Judd, law enforcement is impossible without appreciation and concern for the people he serves. "You've got to love people first before you can lead them anywhere. And I love the people of Polk County, and I love the people in the Sheriff's Office. Until you care about them as an individual first, nothing else matters. And that's why I believe that I've been ultimately successful because people you love and care for will reciprocate."
Grady Judd began his career at the Polk County Sheriff ’s Office (Florida) in 1972 as a dispatcher. After transferring to the Patrol Division in 1974, he quickly progressed through the ranks – holding every rank from Sergeant to Colonel. Polk County overwhelmingly elected Grady to serve as Sheriff in 2004.
Sheriff Judd has earned higher education degrees through the Masters level – having obtained both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Rollins College. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Senior Management Institute for Police, the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, and the FBI National Executive Institute. He was a participant of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA) Law Enforcement Exchange Program (LEEP).
Sheriff Judd has taught as an adjunct professor at both the University of South Florida and Florida Southern College. He is a Polk County School Board Hall of Fame inductee, a past recipient of Polk State College’s prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award, the 2008 Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award, Protect Our Children Junny Award, the 2013 Callyo’s Leaders in Online Child Protection Award, as well as the 2013 Church Women United Human Rights Award. He continues to serve the community on several boards and committees, including the Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE) and Polk Vision. He is a past President of the Florida Sheriffs Association and the immediate past President of the Major County Sheriffs of America, a national organization serving counties with a population of 500,000 or more. In 2020, he was appointed by the President of the United States to the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention committee, for a three-year term.
Grady has been married to Marisa since 1972, and they have two adult sons and 13 grandchildren.

Let’s Talk Loneliness and Boundaries with Dianne A. Allen
Tuesday Apr 26, 2022
Tuesday Apr 26, 2022
We all have our own unique way of living through and dancing with loneliness and the difficulty of setting boundaries.
When I was in high school, I was always around a lot of great people, and I really loved it. But I had this loneliness on the inside because I felt I was different from them, and they couldn't see it. I didn't know what it was. And there was this weird inner disconnect. So I had a lot of loneliness; even though many people were around me, my friendships were wonderful, and things were good. Loneliness can happen physically, but it also happens emotionally.
Join me in this episode of Someone Gets Me — Let's Talk Loneliness and Boundaries with Dianne A. Allen. ▶️
Key point covered in this episode:
✔️You can be alone but not lonely. Many of my clients tell me they would do anything to be loved. They have such a strong fear of being alone that they stay in not so great relationships. What happens is they keep changing their boundaries to please the other person until respect is lost.
✔️ People with healthy, regulated boundaries establish that yes means yes and no means no. Those who genuinely love you will respect how you choose to operate and be in integrity to get your needs met. Remember, loneliness is much bigger than just being alone, and it has to do with a true sense of connection and belonging.
✔️ Are you the person with the plexiglass boundaries? Look inside and see if the loneliness you feel is due to those invisible barriers you've put up that keeps people at a distance. It may have protected you before but not serving you anymore.
✔️Do not let the trance of electronics alter the fact that human connection is vital. Whether through sharing ideas, exchanging hugs, holding hands or just sitting together and hearing each other's voices — all of those things are so important because the drive for personal human connection is strong. It's in our cells; it's in our DNA. We are mammals, and we are meant to interact energetically with others of the same species.
So if you fool yourself into thinking that everything on screens is giving you the connection you need, you're missing the mark because you're going to create existential loneliness by doing that. We are required deeper in our minds and our innate structure to share the energetic connection with others for health, wellness, prosperity, success, and growth.
✔️ Begin to free yourself from the bondage that keeps this progressive kind of loneliness following you around. Start inside you and connect to your inner vision and purpose. It takes a lot of introspection and awareness to set healthy boundaries and move forward in any challenging situation. The truth is when you come out of your integrity, and separate yourself from your alignment, then you are creating your loneliness. Get clear of what you stand for and become the YOU who fulfills your destiny.

How To Live Your Dream With Jim Peterik
Tuesday Apr 19, 2022
Tuesday Apr 19, 2022
Grammy® Award Winning songwriter Jim Peterik is excited to create more music at 71. Donning his fabulous purple hair, the iconic musician graces the show and gives us a wealth of wise words, laughs and inspiration on why we should trust our instinct and pursue what we love. For Jim, his passion for words and music continues to touch many lives.
Tune in to Someone Gets Me — How To Live Your Dream With Jim Peterik. ▶️
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️So many incredible musicians as guests on the show have long careers and experienced the magic of living that dream. Jim Peterik is one of those people who has found that magic in a career that started back in the 60s, and he's still going strong with amazing, great music, a living legend. He has written a book, still plays the guitar and keyboards, composes music and does lots of things in the creative space.
✔️Jim recalls nearly dismissing what he thought was a prank call on the answering machine in 1981. A guy sounding like Sylvester Stallone left him a message. Jim's wife prodded him to return the call and found out it was certainly not a joke. To this day, "Eye of the Tiger", the theme from the film Rocky III remains an unforgettable song that inspires people of all ages.
✔️ Collaboration is the secret to making wonderful music, according to Jim. The beauty of going into the heart and creating with fellow talented artists has made his life's work fun and rewarding.
✔️To succeed in life, don't be afraid to suck. This is excellent advice from Jim as the musical great. His journey as the founder of rock band Survivor and creating his list of hit songs resulted from a series of trying and failing in his craft and passion. "Don't think every bit of lyrics and melody is going to be good. Sometimes you can suck for the long term before suddenly something rises from the ashes, and you don't suck anymore. It's like trying to find the diamonds, yet people stop themselves because they're not brilliant right away. Brilliant comes to you gradually."
✔️ Legacy and inspiration. Jim continues to receive stacks of fan mail and elaborate packages of Rocky albums to sign. They all have a note of how much his music meant to them, even some from 12 to 14 year-olds. "It's a great experience to hear the effect you can have through music and your lyrics. And I always try to put a little bit of meaning and give a little wisdom with the fun."
Jim Peterik is an American musician, singer and songwriter. He is best known as the founder of the band Survivor, as vocalist and songwriter of "Vehicle" by the Ides of March, and as co-writer of the anthem "Eye of the Tiger", the theme from the 1982 film Rocky III.
Peterik has co-written songs for 38 Special ("Rockin' into the Night", "Hold On Loosely"), Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackhawk, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar ("Heavy Metal"), Cathy Richardson, Dennis DeYoung, Van Zant, Brian Wilson, REO Speedwagon, and The Beach Boys.
He is currently fronting the melodic rock band Pride of Lions, an entire album of women of Rock and Roll called Tigress and smooth-jazz project Jim Peterik's Lifeforce, and has a regular series of yearly concert performances with an all-star cast as World Stage. He is also active as a producer and mentor to young, developing talent.

The 3 Best Ways to Self-Sabotage with Dianne A. Allen
Tuesday Apr 12, 2022
Tuesday Apr 12, 2022
I know many people who have gone after great career goals or educational goals, only to sabotage it right when they're almost there. I've worked with people in recovery for decades, almost getting to that milestone and then messing it up.
It's that dreaded thing of self-sabotage, the pain we create for ourselves by our own doing. It comes from the fear of success and can be fueled by complicated grief. Lean in and learn the three things that you do that ruin your success. Pay attention to these and make different choices if you're going down the self-sabotage road.
Join me in this episode of Someone Gets Me — The 3 Best Ways to Self-Sabotage with Dianne A. Allen. ▶️
Key point covered in this episode:
✔️ Making excuses is self-sabotage. You are not in integrity and alignment when you justify non-acceptable behavior. It's important to discern: Am I making an excuse? Am I explaining something away? What am I doing? Understand your motives behind your actions and tell yourself the truth.
✔️ Blaming others is self-sabotage. If you are holding someone as the reason why you're not getting where you want to go, doing what you want to do, or believing in what you want to believe and holding that person responsible is a way of self-sabotage. Blame causes all kinds of misinformation, heartaches, anger, fear, grief that result in disconnection and loneliness. So blaming anyone takes you out of your spiritual alignment. Remember, blaming others damages your own happiness, success, fulfillment, and belonging.
✔️ Over talking and over-explaining are habits of self-sabotage. Do you know someone who, when asked a simple question, replies with a 40-minute answer? Get aware of persons who have the habit of over-explaining and non-stop talking. Often, it could be off-putting to others because maybe the listener already understands, yet they don't give them a chance to ask a question, share their thoughts or say something. That kind of person sets themselves up for self-sabotage, knowingly or unknowingly.

When Loneliness Won’t Leave You Alone With Dianne A. Allen
Tuesday Mar 29, 2022
Tuesday Mar 29, 2022
Do you feel complicated grief and loneliness that won't leave you alone? Many of us do; in these difficult times, we experience distress and sadness when lots of changes have all been dumped on us without having the time to heal, resonate, rectify, and integrate everything that is happening.
Join me in this episode of Someone Gets Me — When Loneliness Won't Leave You Alone: ▶️https://youtu.be/iE3_dr7cqrs.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️Understand that you're not alone. Others are going through the same things as you; you just don't know it. We go through these deep times where loneliness follows us around. Sometimes it's because we might have a high spiritual calling. Sometimes it can be complicated grief.
✔️Allow me to remind you, my friend -- life is not linear. What we go through is happening in circles. So when things come up and you think: “my old feelings of pain are back again. What must I not have done to heal it right, or what did I do wrong?” I'm here to tell you you did nothing wrong.
When you come back around to that same spot with the same issues differently or more profoundly, you may have cleared off some of the top layers, and as you evolve and grow, it's time for your soul to heal something even deeper. Give yourself grace, and you will find all of the answers are inside.
✔️ Loneliness can become your friend. Do you go through that sorrow, that loneliness, that heavy sadness, and you have no idea where it comes from? These can be the result if we are feeling disconnected from our source. These emotions can be healthy signs to remind us of the essence of who we are and what we are here to do.
✔️ We feel grief when we make a change, even for the better. It's normal to feel grief even when you make significant positive changes, like getting engaged, married or having a baby. Grief comes because it's the feeling that happens, the conflicting mass of emotions. It's not just when losing a loved one or there's something wrong. We feel grief when we make a change, even for the better.
✔️ When you feel guilty about having these emotions, don't go the route of isolating yourself. Don't be afraid to speak up; we've seen how the stigma has created more harm for people. Don't let that complicated grief over time separate you and create a bigger loneliness pocket in your world than necessary.
✔️ All of us are vital puzzle pieces in the vast greatness of this universe. I noticed that the more I dove deep in myself, the more I let that part of me say YES to the universe. Loneliness will no longer follow you around when you do this for yourself. It's time to get connected to who you are, find your peace so you can live with beauty, grace and happiness.
✔️Take the time and invest the effort in knowing and healing yourself. Allow someone who already has done it for themselves to support you. See how loneliness dissipates when you do.

For actress Selena Anduze, it takes relentless passion and commitment for the craft itself to sustain the hardships of the industry and the stress in the business of acting. The journey of making it in the entertainment business requires knowing how to set boundaries and protect your energy.
Join me in this episode of Someone Gets Me — Being a Good Storyteller with Selena Anduze. ▶️https://youtu.be/BP0es2DHsQA.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ There's no age limit, height limit, and certainly no race limit on being a storyteller. Born and raised on the US Virgin Island of St. Croix and then transplanted to the United States during her teens, actress Selena brings a unique storyteller voice to her TV and film roles. She is most known for her role as "Agent Rodriguez" in the Marvel show WandaVision on Disney+.
Selena considers acting as a gift that comes with profound responsibility. As a storyteller, she chooses to represent people who, like her, possess different ethnicities. "I have a sense of duty to make sure that I'm not seen in a stereotypical but positive way that is culturally educational to the rest of the world."
✔️ Work is a vocation that comes from that calling within your soul. For Selena, getting into acting for the sake of getting famous can get awry. "It's going to be really hard for someone to be successful if they're just chasing fame. You need to be pursuing your passion for storytelling and ask: Where do I fit? What is my dharma? What is my purpose, and who should I be the best at telling a story that helps the whole village of humanity survive?” Be the one telling the stories that need to be told and at least hope to reach precisely the people you are supposed to touch.
✔️ We are interrupters who came in with a soul calling to interrupt the intergenerational trance before us. Do you feel like an old soul that doesn't really fit in with the people around you? You are one of the rare ones. Like Selena and Dianne A. Allen, you are an interrupter. Often, you are the black sheep of the family; you came in with a soul calling to interrupt the intergenerational trance before us, chosen to create a bigger change.
Be who you are. You are doing a mighty service by stepping into that authentic being who firmly takes a stand.

"Follow your purpose" sounds like a simple thing to do. But when we live in a world full of people who have ideas and opinions about what we're supposed to be, what we can do, or how things are supposed to work -- we get distracted and often redirected from living up to our vision.
Tune in to this episode of Someone Gets Me — Deaf to the Negative / Ignore the Naysayers with Dianne A. Allen ▶️https://youtu.be/h5kyNtMDqsY.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ How often do you stop and ask: What am I called to do?
Follow your calling by being deaf to the self-doubt within and what is said outside of you. As Stephen Covey said: "It's easy to say no when there's a burning yes within."
✔️ We're all here for a different purpose, even when they look similar. There's not two of me, just like there's not two of you. Be you in your unique, amazing, cool way, bringing your gift forward.
✔️ What you CAN do is different from what you are CALLED to do. A good idea is different from your calling. Therefore what you can do is different from what you're called to do. Over time, that heart's vision, that passion, that mission you are here to do will keep showing up until you listen.
✔️ Your life is a masterpiece — so start signing autographs now. Every time you do that, you are honoring your purpose, mission, and your heart's true desires that's different from everyone else's.
