Why Normal Is Not Healthy by Dianne A. Allen
Tuesday Aug 10, 2021
Tuesday Aug 10, 2021
The word "normal" showed up in the English language because of the Industrial Revolution, when it was all about standardizing things for mass production. We were sold the idea and the belief that progress meant systematizing products, services, and even people. In 2021, I believe that humanity has used up the values of "normal" and "standard" and has proven to be invalid in many ways over the last many years.
In this episode, understand why this continuing culture remains a big issue. Not speaking against the definition of normal that society accepts will continue to harbor divisiveness, hate, and judgment.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ Working in the mental health, addiction, personal development, and mentoring world for 40 years — I have seen how giftedness is misunderstood and how gifted children who receive negative attitudes from society suffer throughout their lives.
✔️ Standardized testing has shown nothing of great value in the last decades in correlation to a student's true giftedness or future career outcomes. The problem is we have tried to standardize humans like we standardize machines, and humans are not machines.
✔️ Trying to be normal is not healthy. Forcing yourself to fit into the norm or inside the box because it's not healthy, and it's not how humans are made.
✔️ We live in a culture that only talks about what's wrong. We don't talk about what's good or what's right or what people's gifts are, or how to use them.
✔️ Never apply the word normal to any human being because no one is a machine. We are real, authentic, and unique beings. I advocate for geeky gifted people who don't fit into the mold and the creative geniuses trying to translate big visions into this human world.
✔️ Unity is not sameness — unity is coming together. We can be very diverse and still unite. It's time we start treating each other with respect, coming out of our fighting corners, and realizing that everyone has value.
✔️ Your diversity is needed, desired, and the perfect, authentic gift that only you can bring to the world. Stop playing small and being a best-kept secret.

Overthinking - What Causes It And How To Overcome
Tuesday Aug 03, 2021
Tuesday Aug 03, 2021
There are so many dangers to overthinking, and sometimes people think it's just part of the stress in the world. Overthinking becomes a compulsion and addiction. The only way to break it is to keep putting different kinds of interjections and pattern interrupts so that it can't keep running our lives. As humans, we are designed biologically and neurologically to deal with short-term stress and live with more rest in harmony—quite the opposite of our current culture.
In this episode, overthink no more and learn how to master and overcome the monkey mind going around in your head overcome the constant chatter that impairs your happiness, success, and ultimate fulfillment.
Essential points covered in this episode:
✔️ Poor sleep is one of the biggest dangers of overthinking. There's tons of research emphasizing the importance of rest, especially for those of us who are intensely sensitive. If you are not sleeping right, you diminish your health and function.
✔️ Overthinking can create headaches. You experience getting them in the back of your neck or the back of your head. Headaches serve as a signal that you need to take a break on the inside.
✔️ Overthinking can come from living in fear, whether you are afraid of failure or success, and other unconscious belief systems that lead to self-sabotage.
✔️ Analysis paralysis results from thinking too much and end up freezing yourself with your thinking. And so, when we get caught in this trap, we end up deadening our ability to problem solve and connect with people.
✔️ When we're overthinking, we're walking around like a stick with a head. The danger of overthinking results in stiffness in the body. You want to have flexibility in your body so your muscles will move and you can feel good. You are creating more rigidity results in more disconnection from living in the moment.
✔️ A weary mind leads to a tired body. Fatigue and all of its ways, compassion fatigue, decision fatigue, and physical tiredness result in overthinking. It takes a lot of energy to keep overthinking, and so is it worth it? We exhaust our nervous system that can get dysfunctional, and experience side effects.
✔️ Release the obsession and the compulsion of always to be thinking. When we're overthinking the future and the past, we're missing out on the many beautiful and glorious aspects of life.
✔️ The best way to help get rid of the overthinking is to create. Letting the creative part of you out creates balance in your nervous system, your digestion, lowers your blood pressure, and relaxes your jaw and the tension in your shoulders. So it's so important to let the creativity out, whether it's journaling, scribbling, or making sports, music, art, or dance.
✔️ When we keep so much junk in our head that there's no room for love or joy or happiness, we have totally undermined the purpose of our mind.
✔️ Meditate, journal and love on yourself — there are lots of things we can do without screens. Do not allow yourself to be constantly distracted by every notification on your computer or phone. Turn them off so you can check at your leisure when you schedule it, not when it dings to you.

Bring Your Dreams into Reality with Raven Harris
Tuesday Jul 27, 2021
Tuesday Jul 27, 2021
The phrase "You Only Live Once" or YOLOing has been alluded to making impulse triggered decisions and risky actions, especially in younger people. After living through the devastation of 2020, this aphorism seemingly fueled many of us to rethink our priorities and what brings us joy and meaning.
One who tells a breakthrough story from the pandemic is Raven Harris. She was an accomplished woman and served as the COO of a critical illness recovery hospital in her 20s. However, after getting the persistent heart tugs, she finally took the jump, resigned from her job and started her consulting agency to help young professionals achieve clarity of purpose and build the life they love.
Essential points covered in this episode:
✔️ Often when we face death in the face, we begin to see things in a whole new light. Raven Harris shares that working at a hospital was a gift given to her, "having a front-row seat seeing people cross over so that when it's my time, I can say I lived full, and I died empty."
✔️ Are you a part of the 85% of the millions of people in the world that are unhappy in their jobs? Speaker, strategist and leadership mentor Raven Harris reminds us that it may be cliche, but know that there can be more to life for you than just existing. Find what truly makes your heart sing. "When you are in your zone, locked in your sweet spot, it shows — everyone can feel it, and you can feel it. There's a different level of satisfaction that people have when they go back to the core that brings you inner joy."
✔️ Do not discredit the season you're in now — it may just be the necessary experience you need to be prepared for the next obstacle or the next opportunity that will come in your journey.
✔️ Unless you take action to bring that VISION INTO REALITY, it will keep knocking on your door, showing up when you least expect and keep coming back tugging at your heartstrings until you finally say YES. Why? Because your purpose is for you to do and nobody else.
✔️ A lot of us have allowed the outside noise to almost kill our dreams. So how do we rediscover it? Your inner guide knows the path that's right for you but denying it long enough may have numbed you from leaning in well. Achieve the transformation that you want by seeking help from people who can see the greatness in you and can provide you with a level of comfort and peace that it's ok to go in the direction of your dreams.
About Raven Harris
Raven is the founder and CEO of Activate the Dream, a leadership solutions company. She works with people and organizations to enhance and elevate the personal and professional leadership skills of new and emerging leaders. She is also the host of the video podcast, Reset with Raven, where she along with guests share personal stories of how they have successfully navigated resets in their career, life, and business. Sensitivity and Intuition in Gifted People with Amy Estersohn
Tuesday Jul 20, 2021
Tuesday Jul 20, 2021
Join us for another value-packed episode of Someone Gets Me! Dianne A Allen shares an insightful discussion with exceptional and gifted educator Amy Estersohn.
What is it like to be a sensitive, gifted person? How do you handle your thoughts and use them to be of service to others?
Essential points covered in this episode:
✔️ Learn to listen to your intuition. How many times have we shut down something and then looked back and figured that wasn't the best move, or we paid a negative price in some way or another?
✔️ Intuition is the highest form of intelligence. It's true for all of us and even for people who don't recognize it. Get to know better about your reactions from the gut-level and energy levels.
✔️ In William Shakespeare's "Hamlet," Amy posits that the great playwright teaches an essential lesson in balancing practicality and intuition. "Don't be like Hamlet, don't be so in love or ever trusting of your visions and insights that you forget to observe your world. Don't forget to use data. Don't forget to use the scientific method. Don't forget to be grounded. Use that as a lesson that one can't be too intuitive, spiritual, and too woo-woo and ruin common sense."
✔️ Understand that it can be difficult when our egos get in the way of our intuition very often.
✔️ As gifted people, you should use your intuition as an asset, not for your well-being but to increase greater harmony in the world.
✔️ In today's context, it makes a difference to pay attention and use your discernment. Think through, feel through and sense through what will be your right move in every scenario.
✔️ Sensitive people get over-involved when they want to help the person more than they want to help themselves. Set up boundaries because you can't be fixing other people's problems when they don't even participate in solving them.
✔️ Use your gift to help others put words to the unique person they are. Be able to hold up a mirror to somebody and say, here's what you've done, and here are the talents I see in you.
About Amy Estersohn
Amy Estersohn supports creative, intense, and stubborn teens with college and career guidance. She has worked with teen inventors, composers, actors, software developers, and entrepreneurs who also struggle with perfectionism, organization, time management, and anxiety. Through an emphasis on college selection and college essay development, she helps teens see themselves and their talents meaningfully and authentically.
Amy's background includes working as an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Chicago. She partnered with Chicago's Office of Career Advancement to review resumes and provide job application coaching.

Being Intense, Intuitive, and Introverted with Dianne A. Allen
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
WOW! Finally, the big 2-0-0 comes around! Can you believe it? 🎉🎉🎉 We celebrate the 200th episode as we press on to reach every visionary and gifted person to grow, transform and enjoy the benefits of having a community and a mentor. Finally, you can joyfully say: "someone gets me!".
In this special episode, I'm talking about the #1 problem that highly sensitive, intuitive, and introverted individuals face and how to overcome it and live an AMAZING life!
What You Will Discover:
✔️ The reason why an intense person often means getting misunderstood. I'm talking about a level of intensity where perhaps you could compare it to most people watching a black and white little TV while we're walking around in 3D surround sound cranked up. We feel our emotions very, very, very intensely.
✔️ From working with hundreds of gifted, highly sensitive, intense, and introverted individuals, confusion is the biggest roadblock that stops them from realizing their fullest potential.
✔️ Why it's remarkably interesting to be this way, it can also be really tricky to navigate. So it's not just about research or diagnosis, but by unpacking these experiences in a practical, everyday sense and learning how to harness these gifts and live right.
✔️ Understand that you know better than anyone else about you, your life, mission, and vision! So when somebody tries to tell you otherwise, even if they love you and care about you, they may be projecting their fears on you.
✔️ Just take the first step, and the universe comes right in and gives you feedback. Whether it says "keep going" or "make an adjustment." Either way, you have your feedback. So move and stop at nothing.
✔️ Having the gift of intuition is one thing. Understanding and using it for your good is a whole other conversation.
Learn the basic skills to manage it, make friends with that part of you, and stand in your authority with it.
✔️ Intensity, introversion, and intuition braided together make a powerful and more amazing life experience.
The value of these gifts elevates that ability to see differently and discern questions that serve you, me, and the whole world.
✔️ Know who you are and live that because trying to live somebody else's dream doesn't work. Understand that it's ok to be you and unlock how to maximize working with those people different from you. This episode will change how you think about your unique gifts.

Joy and Deep Inner Connection with Deana Martin
Tuesday Jul 06, 2021
Tuesday Jul 06, 2021
In this week's episode, I am thrilled to share the screen and engage in an epic conversation with Deana Martin –– daughter of legendary singer, actor, and entertainer Dean Martin – who has forged an inspiring path as a visionary artist in her own right. In addition to her many musical successes, she is a New York Times bestselling author, a gifted actor, a vocalist of incredible emotional depth and passion, and a licensed pilot.
Tune in and learn the secrets of how she stays young, loves life more in her golden years, the exciting things she learned from her father, the "King of Cool" Dean Martin, and the legacy she continues to build with joy and connection to the world with her music.
Essential points covered in this episode:
✔️ Learn how at 72, Deana is teeming with amazing energy! "It's in my DNA because my dad was like that, my brothers and sisters, we all have a thirst for life. So first of all, I'm happy that I can wake up every day. And once that happens, the first thing I think about is what else I can do today? What new things can I learn?"
✔️ Understand the value of having a growth mindset no matter your age. Discover how Deana, as a multipotentialite, shares that she also became an aerobics instructor because she wanted to stay fit on top of her busy life as a performer.
✔️ Lean into the lessons Dean Martin taught her daughter to live with respect, discipline, hard work, and never cutting corners. "My dad would never pick up the phone and call people and say, put Deana in your movie. That's not something he would say. Instead, he tells me, 'go down and read for the film if you make it — good. If you don't, it's too bad but try again."
✔️ How Deana's music continues to bring joy and connection to the world is truly priceless. Years of playing up to 280 dates per year, her audiences still can't get enough. Due to the pandemic, Deana reaches out to her fans through her live video performances.
✔️ As a performer, she cherishes the energy exchange with a live audience. "When we're making the music, it's always different, and it's live, and you hear the response from people. It's like there's this one big happy family behind you. And even though they may have not had a great day, the music brings us together. We make people feel good and make them cry because the music touches the soul."

How to Prevent Burnout with Spencer Burnett
Tuesday Jun 22, 2021
Tuesday Jun 22, 2021
Are you overwhelmed by all the different elements of life? Like many gifted people, do you experience high highs and then the depths of the lows where your entire world is crashing, and it seems like you're never going to get out of it?
In this value-packed episode of Someone Gets Me, Dianne A Allen sits in with lifestyle and performance coach Spencer Burnett to talk about how to manage energy and achieve simple ways of rewiring the mind to achieve clarity and focus for visionaries, entrepreneurs, and serial creators.
Essential points covered in this episode:
✔️ Overwhelmed, feeling late, feeling behind, feeling like there are a thousand things to do and only time to do three? These are results of a poor relationship with time which then causes your integrity to be off.
✔️ When you build a better relationship with time and commitment, it becomes much easier for you to maintain your integrity, which is how you behave and why you execute as intended.
✔️ Understand why your day becomes a series of mini failures of where you didn't take action precisely the way you intended to, and that starts weighing on you emotionally—plan for the expected, not for the ideal.
✔️ Anticipate your distractions, the external and mostly the internal.
✔️ If you desire to create something, remember that the mind is thinking duration, path, and outcome. Until you answer those three questions, the brain will continue to obsess about it until it gets an answer to those things.
✔️ The lack of building that self-trust prevents you from taking action and figuring out the next step.
✔️ Learn how to start with the outcome and then reverse-engineer the path to your big, hairy, audacious goals. Creating your mini visions leads you to achieve completing goals and overcoming overwhelm.
✔️ Why "void language" puts you at a standstill and leaves you stuck.
✔️ Know how to interact with your monsters or demons or dark forces. AS you journey down the road of life, consider them as turning signals and not blocks.
✔️ When you can truly surrender to death, you can surrender to any outcome. In the end, you see what matters and what isn't worth stressing over. Discernment becomes clearer when you think you have your toes up to that line.
Spencer Burnett is a high-performance mind mechanic who specializes in helping entrepreneurs rewire their mindset. He helps them align their actions to support their goals and vision through mindset strategy, organization, and spiritual enlightenment. He has been an entrepreneur and coach for the past 21 years across multiple industries.

Taboo Topics for Gifted Parents with Dr. Julia Hodgson
Tuesday Jun 15, 2021
Tuesday Jun 15, 2021
Parenting is a different journey for everyone because there is no one-size-fits-all instruction manual. Parents have the constant feeling of having no clue about what they're doing and being afraid that they will screw up their kids in the process.
In this episode of Someone Gets Me, Dianne A. Allen engages in an important conversation with Dr. Julia Hodgson, a psychologist, and educator advocating to normalize discussions about taboo topics on pregnancy and parenting and why taking care of yourself is just as essential as the child or children.
Essential points covered in this episode:
✔️ Understand why the insecurities of being an imperfect parent can have an impact on your child. It doesn't have to be a shameful thing about your capabilities as a parent as other people are going through similar struggles.
✔️In her upcoming book, "Pregnancy Confidential," Julia talks about the parenting secrets and taboos that nobody tells you about. She aims to help moms and dads navigate the child-rearing journey from her professional and very personal experience.
✔️ Keenly listen to your child and do not get too fixated on the "rules" and guidelines expected on how to raise them. Balance the structure with expectations instead of forcing kids to do something that is not working for them.
✔️Learn to acknowledge that it's okay to have ideals and expectations of how a perfect kid or family should be, but you don't have to beat yourself for it.
✔️ Being open and honest instead of hiding truths will not shield and protect our children. Be honest and communicate to them at a level that kids can understand.
✔️ Why the taboo about postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD psychosis, and the fact that mental health disorders continue to harm families because it is not talked about enough and suffering were not intervened and helped out.
✔️ Know that you are doing something difficult yet powerful when you ask for help. A parent, especially a mom, is a superhero doing incredible things, but you are not superhuman.
✔️ Many parents go through difficult times, and it can be tricky and problematic. That doesn't mean you're wrong. Others have the same experience as you.
✔️ Set a foundation by letting children know that possibilities in life aren't limited by gender by being in the language that you use when speaking to them.
✔️ Teach children that it's good to need help from others. It means you're connected, and it means you're growing and you're expanding. And that's the goal.
About Dr. Julia Hodgson
Dr. Julia Hodgson is a psychologist, writer, and lifelong learner and educator. She serves as the Director of Addiction Psychology at AIDS Care Group and is co-founder of The Neurodiversity Collective.
Dr. Hodgson has a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology and a Masters of Education in Human Sexuality, both of which she uses to serve her passion for working with marginalized and misunderstood communities. She has specialized in working with people who are pregnant and parenting, acting as an advocate for normalizing discussions about taboo topics and providing support for caregivers. Her most important credential is that she is a mom to a three and one year old, who happily serve as the greatest teachers about parenting she can find.

Are you thinking seven generations from now? Are you thinking in the long term, which isn't just the five years and ten years from now? Whether you believe it or not, spiritually or scientifically, everything we do affects everything. The energy we put into the world, our emotions, everything affects the world.
How do you look at your legacy? It's time to be intentional, to keep moving forward, to keep doing the things that serve the greater good, and to instill hope in ourselves and others because of our actions.
In this episode of Someone Gets Me, Dianne A. Allen shares the five steps to start living with intention and creating your lasting personal legacy.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ Start every day by completing something important as early in the morning as you possibly can. Taking a shower or fixing your bed in the mornings are little tasks that help big in pushing away analysis-paralysis, procrastination, overwhelm and fear. Wake up seven days a week, and that's the first thing you do. Because when you do that and already have something completed for the day, it's impossible to have a failed day.
✔️ Respect all sentient beings. Whether it's that little chipmunk or the big tree in your backyard, the neighbor's cat, or humans you disagree with — send them good energies and lots of love.
✔️ Find people to go through life with. Who do you respect? Who do you admire? Who mentors you? Who are you mentoring? Demonstrate respect for others by having other people going through life biologically and neurologically.
✔️Take risks and step out of your comfort zone, especially when it's tough. When things are hard like this pandemic and things are happening, keep going and step out of your comfort zone. Meet someone new, do something for another person, take a risk that gets you toward where you say you want to go.
✔️ Stand up to the bullies, the sharks, and the piggybacks and use your voice to benefit those whose voices have been silenced. Look for places and people to serve and stand for without expecting anything in return. Because when you have bullies around, or you have people taking advantage, it creates a lot of discord. Do your part to lessen those that inflict pain physically or emotionally on other people.
✔️ Understand that life isn't always fair, and we're all going to fail at stuff and mess up. Having a beginner's mind is good, and I think that it's worth starting ugly. It's OK. Do it, go after it, and do your very best.
✔️ When you second guess and put self-doubt in there, you are separating yourself from your legacy. You're getting in your way. When you have momentum, take action, you may mess something up, but you can rebuild with new understanding, new happiness, and a new focus.
